Commerce Education in Mumbai

In India, history of Commerce Education dates back to 1886 when it was introduced for the first time in our country. In February 1895, the Government of India opened the first Commerce school in Calicut and since then through stages, commerce education has been an essential part of our education system in a variety of modes.
Commerce primarily expresses the fairly abstract idea of buying and selling, whereas trade may refer to the exchange of a specific class of goods or to a specific act of exchange. Business on the other hand, can be described as a group set up for the reason of appealing in manufacturing or exchange of goods and services.

Commerce is a division of trade or making agreements with the exchange of goods and services from the producer to the final consumer. It comprises the trading of something of economic value such as goods, services, information or money between two or more objects. Commerce functions as the central mechanism which drives capitalism and certain other economic systems. Commercialization consists of the process of changing something into a product, service or action which one may then use in commerce.

The Department of Commerce was established in Mumbai University on 1st December, 1980. The Department provides instructions for not only its 3-year B.com programme but also for two years course of Master of Commerce (M.Com.).  The Department also admits students for research leading to the Ph.D. Degree.

Eligibility for Admissions:

1. Admissions are given purely on merit basis as per the guidelines issued by the University of Mumbai.

2. Submission of the duly filled in admission form along with the required documents verified and checked by the College office.

3. Interview with the Principal / admission committee members along with the documents and signature taken from them to confirm the admission.

Duration of Course: 3 years for B. Com study, 2 years for M. COM study and 2 to 5 years for Ph. D course.
Eligibility for B.COM is candidate should have done 12th STD with good marks from a good college. M.COM is candidate should have done B.COM with good marks from a recognized college.

Ph.D Course: To get admission in this course candidate should have passed M.COM with good marks from a good college.
