Nursing Education in Mumbai
Nursing profession is a very significant component of the health care system of a country. In India, the career prospect in nursing is increasingly high. More and more numbers of nursing schools/colleges are being opened to meet the growing demand of professional nurses in hospitals whether private or government. The nursing profession being one of the noblest professions in the world is an art of caring for sick people with the science of health care. The nursing duties have a wide range of functions and responsibilities, depending on the level of qualification and work environment. At the initial level, nurses stay and take care of patients at the bedside, while at the senior level they manage special group of people like psychiatric, pediatric and intensive care patients. They work in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and homes. They not only nurse the sick but also educate the patients about protective care.
The Trained Nurses' Association of India (TNAI)
At the Annual Conference held in Bombay in 1908, a decision was taken to establish Trained Nurses Association. The Association was inaugurated in 1909. In 1922, the Association of Nursing Superintendents and Trained Nurses Association were joined and called The Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI).
In 1974 the TNAI became a member of the Commonwealth Nurses Federation (CNF). Since then, throughout Mumbai various nursing colleges were founded to provide suitable and exact training in Nursing discipline. Mumbai is now well known for its medical facilities and its quality for medical treatment. Most hospitals have their own advanced equipments and quality staffs.
Courses and Eligibility:
Diploma in General nursing and Midwifery - Candidate should have passed 12th STD with science from a recognized school or college.
Basic B.Sc. Nursing - 4 years Candidate should have passed Diploma in Nursing or 12th STD in science stream from a good college.
